FINDING YOUR PASSION in 4 easy steps

In a recent blog post I talked about the importance of daily Intention Setting and how it can transform your life and help you achieve your goals. If you remember, I told you the first step to living with Intent is to Find your Passion. Here's what I said exactly:

Determine what your values and beliefs actually are, what are you passionate about? What do you believe and care about so strongly that you can't help but tell others all about it? (even when you see their eyes glaze over with disinterest)

So I admit that I can be harder than it sounds. As creatives we have a lot of different interests, and as modern humans we have very little time to sit and reflect upon which of those is most important to us. Sound familiar? I definitely identify with this problem, so I found way to make Finding your Passion a little simpler. In fact, it only takes 4 steps to Find your Passion and turn it into a Purpose-driven life!

Are your Ready?!

Ok, well hold on for just one more second. First Let me define PASSION.

Your Passion lies in the intersection between multiple things you are curious about. It's that SWEET SPOT where dopamine is released into your body and you feel totally engaged with what you're doing right this second!

Find your Passion

If you could take this PASSION and build your life around it, wouldn't that be amazing?!

It's extremely important that you realize that everything is built twice. First in the mind and then in the physical world of Reality. Take, for example, constructing a new home. Every single detail is imagined and mapped out in a blue print before you ever lay the foundation.

The same needs to be true with your business and life goals. You must begin with the End in mind. Populate that passionate work as specifically as possible, even down to the plants in the flower bed and the throw cushions on the couch. Live in the world inside your head, so that you can begin to make it a reality in the physical realm.

Where does passion come into this?

Well, you want to build a house you enjoy living in right? You want a business that will bring fulfillment and meaning to your life. You want to set goals that will make you feel truly proud when you accomplish them.

Imagine you start building a house based on a bunch of advice from people who have built houses before. When you get all the walls up you suddenly realize you built a 1970's ranch-style  house and you HATE that style! What you really wanted was a French Colonial, but you didn't make that clear to yourself and others when you were asking for advice. Now you're stuck either living in a house you hate or tearing it down and starting all over with a better plan.

OK, hopefully you're starting to see how thoughtful, advanced planning is KIND OF A BIG DEAL. So let's apply this to your Creative Business. I bet you have tons of hobbies and interests. You're even good at most of them. That's great, but trying to pursue all or most of those at once will leave you exhausted, with a total mess of a business that lacks power and focus. Customer may have trouble figuring out what you stand for or why you are the BEST place to shop.

You've got to narrow your field of focus down to that SWEET SPOT we talked about earlier.

So, no more dilly-dallying. Let's dive right in...

Here are the 4 simple steps to Finding your Passion and living a Purpose-driven life.

STEP 1: Write down all the things you're curious about.

What are your favorite books about? What podcasts do you love to listen to? What do you tell all your friends about learning? What topics do your friends text you about, thinking, "Oh they'll definitely know the answer!"  What puts you in a state a pure bliss? Etc. Etc. Etc.

STEP 2: Create a Venn Diagram of where a few of your favorite curiosities meet.

Venn Diagram

You remember Venn Diagrams from middle school math right? I know you thought you'd never use them again, but you were wrong. Once you've written out your diagram, what's that Sweet Spot in the middle of your Diagram?

Write it down somewhere you can see it everyday because, guess what?

STEP 3: Now that you've found your PASSION, let's find your PURPOSE!

Write down 10 problems you'd like to see solved in the world. Look at them closely. One of them is bound to fit your Passion. You already know what I'm going to say next....

It will take a lot of hard work to build your Dream Life, but now at least you know where you are headed. You know what the house should look like before you start building it. Get out there and get going. But keep an eye on that Venn Diagram to help you stay focused and intent on your passionate purpose.

BONUS: I know not everyone has a spare Venn Diagram lying around, and, who knows, you might have forgotten what one even looks like. That's why I created a Passion Finding Worksheet to make this process even easier. And once you're done you can easily share it with all your creative friends who are even less focused than you. Sign up here, and I'll send you the worksheet in a jiffy.

I'd love to hear what y'all come up with. Let me know in the comments below or shoot me an email once you find your Passion. I'm so excited for you to move forward on your creative journey with these new tools to success!

All the Best,
